At the basin of the San Bruno Mountains is South San Francisco also known as the, “The Industrial City”. Sign Hill which states, “The Industrial City”, is noticeable from just about anywhere on the Peninsula and resembles the Hollywood Sign. In the 1920’s South San Francisco was called “the smokestack city” recognized for its focus on industrial operations. Although, overtime South San Francisco shifted towards the development of homes, parks, hotels and yacht harbors.

Grand Avenue is recognized as SSF’s downtown where you can find Bronstein Music which has been around since the 40’s and Bertolucci’s for a slice of the famous Golden Boy Pizza. The See’s Candies factory is based in South San Francisco and every so often you can smell the delicious chocolate in the making from afar. Another large corporation; Genentech is located just along the harbor in South San Francisco. It created SSF’s new identity as “The birthplace of Biotechnology.” South San Francisco is one of the larger cities on the Peninsula and has a lot to offer!
